Running Android apps simultaneously in “windows 10 Your Phone” is now possible

The newest “Windows 10 Your Phone” update, has made it possible to run multiple android apps simultaneously. However, it has lots of bugs.

It’s been a while since Microsoft created an application named “Your Phone” in Windows 10 as a bridge between Windows and Android. According to Microsoft, Your Phone new version can run multiple android apps simultaneously on Windows 10. However, this is only possible through some selected Samsung Galaxy devices. Besides, Microsoft has published a list of problems that might happen in running multiple android apps simultaneously on Windows 10.

“We are pleased to announce that multiple application experience is now ready to be tested by you.” Brandon LeBlanc stated, “Through supported Galaxy devices, you can experience the power and comfort of running multiple android apps on a computer equipped with Windows 10”. Brandon LeBlanc is the senior program manager of the Windows Insider team.

In August 2020, Microsoft published a feature for computers equipped with Windows 10 to stream android applications. This feature was only available for Windows updated since October 2018 (version 1809). Back then, Your Phone could not open multiple apps simultaneously. Now, it can do so; But, the experience of running multiple apps comes along with BUGs.

Brandon LeBlanc stated that the new ability of Your Phone runs applications in separate windows. Thus users can use multiple applications simultaneously; Even if Your Phone is closed. The advantage that Your Phone offers is that users do not have to install applications in Windows 10. More importantly, they do not have to sign in to applications again.

LeBlanc continued: “pin your applications to Favorite section, Taskbar, or Start menu, so you can have quick access. Furthermore, through the search section of windows in application lists, you can search the applications you pinned before.”

Last Thursday, Your Phone multiple application feature, became available for some Samsung devices which had Android 10 and “Link to Windows”. These devices include Galaxy Note20 5G, Note20 Ultra 5G, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, Galaxy Z Flip, and Z Flip 5G. Also, the Beta version of this application became available for people who have been part of the Windows Insider program.

Keep in mind that the new update of Your Phone is server-side, not client-side (the update is from their servers and not from your application). Therefore, the new update did not apply to all users from the first moment. Microsoft, in its online community, stated that this new feature is in the preview stage and Bugs are normal.

To access this new ability, you need to install the 1.20102.132.0 version or newer versions on your device. If you do not have Your Phone on your Windows, you can download it from Microsoft Store right now.

Compatible applications with Your Phone in Galaxy Phones are known as “Link to Windows” and now are available for download in Google Play. Users also have to download the newest version of Link to Windows on their devices.

One of the main prerequisites is that both the Windows and the Samsung phone must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Microsoft said that some applications might not be compatible with the feature, so you may face a black screen while starting Your Phone. Also, some games and applications may not react to Mouse and Keyboard. For now, this feature can only be experienced in convertible computers (also known as 2 in 1 laptop). “To interact with them, you need computers that have touch screens” Microsoft stated.

Users that open android applications via Your Phone may see that sound does not transmit from the phone to the computer. To use the feature, the Samsung phone screen lock must be open. However, after opening the application, the user can open the screen lock from the computer. Also, there are some problems in the new feature of Your Phone which reasons are unknown, such as affecting Gmail. This problem is solved in android 11.

Microsoft says that if you update the Windows version to 20H1, applications that are from Your Phone and are pinned in the taskbar or start menu might not work. But if you install 20H1 Version or Higher Versions with Clean Install, this problem won’t happen to you. On the other hand, the Mouse cursor might not properly work in some special applications such as Bixby, Camera 1, and AR Zone. Microsoft also says that some messages might only be shown in English.
