The “safely remove” option to remove a USB drive from computer is not probably attractive for everyone and it can be eliminated through several simple processes.
Most of computer users apply “safely remove” option or “eject” to remove USB drive from system so that the hardware wouldn’t be damaged. However, these stages can be disturbing or time consuming for some users. This stage can be simply eliminated through implementing several options and adjustments in Windows 10.
Of course, several points have to be taken into consideration before implementing such adjustments. The most important threat to those hardware packages connected to USB is removing them during work, especially those drives with storage capacity like USBs or external hard drives while they are busy writing or reading data.
Removing hard drive at the time of data writing and reading will lead to defective file written or a damaged file finally resulted. As a result before removing any kind of USB drive from personal computer, first you have to make sure that no copy or replacement of files is taken place in drives.
In some cases, it is hard to detect if computer is busy writing on drive or not? Maybe a background activity is running making drive busy. Maybe autosave is under process on external drive. If drive would be removed at the time processes are run, probably some serious problem would be arisen for files or the USB drive itself.
To prevent above challenges, best way is to run “safely remove” process. Of course, according to Microsoft, if “quick removal” system process would be activated and no file would be under writing or reading processes on drive, no additional stages would be required for drive removal. Moreover, using cache also has not to be active while writing on drive which would be explained later on.
Using Flash Drive Equipped with LED
Some USB drives are equipped with LED light, showing that they are in use. When data writing and reading, LED light would be blinking and we will be informed of the activity under process. As a result, when LED light wouldn’t be blinking, it can be removed from computer with no problem.
If storage drive of yours is not equipped with LED light, you have to just make sure that no background process is going on in terms of copying files or creating support copy.
Activating “Quick Removal” Option
By default, USB drives would be optimized by Windows 10 in a way that they would be removed safely with no need to apply “safely remove” hardware option. This optimization will be performed through inactivating cache process.
Write caching is a capability apparently increasing speed of writing on USB drives. However, the same capability causes you to think that file copying process has been ended despite writing process being continued. Finally, if you do not want to use “safely remove” option to remove USB from computer, aforementioned capability has to be inactivated. Upon your tendency, this can be activated again from “device manager”.
To inactivate “write cashing”, click “start” menu and type “device manager” in search box. Pressing enter, you a new window would be open to you.
From “Disk Drives”, find your concerned external drive and right click it to select “Properties” and enter settings.
Using “Policies” tab, select radio button “Quick Removal”. If the button has been selected before, change the mode and click OK.
Going out of device manager, settings will be applied. From now on, you do not need to perform “safely remove” to remove concerned USB drive. Please remember that primarily you have to always make sure of no replacement or copying to be under process.
